Bridging virtual and physical experiences at Blizzard

An interactive, auditory tablet experience that plays Overwatch characters' dialogue, enhancing employee experience and scalable for Blizzard convention use.

Background

Blizzard's campus features statues of its iconic characters, with Junkrat as the newest addition.

Our team saw an opportunity to bring it to life using an existing in-game feature.

Results & Projected Impact

I designed a kiosk for employees and visitors to enjoy, hearing Junkrat’s game quotes in multiple languages.

Versatility

The simple layout adapts to any Overwatch character, personalizing experiences from one base design.

Scalable Impact

This project is designed for office use but scalable to expand to BlizzCon for all attendees!

Context

An new opportunity reusing existing parts

Blizzard has statues of their game characters all over the office.

To welcome a new Junkrat statue, I created an interactive display for visitors to play Junkrat’s dialogue in different languages, showcasing Blizzard’s work alongside the new statue.

Final Solution

Rounds of usability testing helped me bring Junkrat to life.

The main changes included:

  1. Adding more depth to the dynamic cards to increase scrolling visibility.
  2. Adding descriptions under buttons rather than relying on standalone buttons to reduce ambiguity.

Impact

Projected Impact

Due to a project shift, development was delayed to the following year. But even with this delay, the projected impact is sure to add even more enjoyment for our employees.

Adaptable for use with other statues

The simple, adaptable layout allows stylistic adjustments for any character, personalizing experiences for each character with unique voice lines from a single base design.

Scalable Impact

This project was designed for in-office use by employees and approved visitors, with future potential for BlizzCon, expanding to all Overwatch characters for attendees.
